Projects Update

The Caledonia Rails project faces some obstacles due to the involvement of three distinct First Nations groups expressing interest in the lands.

We are fully committed to ensuring that their concerns are addressed fairly throughout the development process.

Our grading contractor has issued specific instructions to be cautious regarding contamination along the eastern portion of the site. To mitigate any potential issues, we are prioritizing the careful handling of the soil to avoid disturbance and mixing, maintaining compliance with environmental standards.

Given that residential land uses are being proposed, we will be required to submit a Record of Site Condition. In support of this, we held a productive meeting with the Six Nations of the Grand River on November 8, 2024, to discuss the project and align on the next steps. Additionally, we conducted a Public Information Meeting on November 27, 2024.

Looking ahead, we are preparing for the Official Plan Amendment (OPA) and Zoning By-law Amendment (ZBA) application, with a tentative submission date of December 20, 2024. 

We are carefully navigating these steps to ensure the project’s success while fostering positive relationships with all involved parties.
